Since then, we’ve been sending out our weekly newsletter, seeing our reader numbers grow, and most importantly, have you join us on our journey of helping equip parents with the skills to build the mindsets, habits, and tips for the next generation of money masters, or as we like to call them, mini millionaires.

So whether this is one of your first editions or you’re one of our day ones, thank you for being part of Mini Millionaires.

We’re going to take a little look back at the last year at some of our most popular editions, share how we’ve grown, make a special announcement, and one of our readers is getting a little something something for our birthday…

Thank you for joining us in our mission to raise the next gen of money masters. We love that we get to do this with you and your mini millionaire family.

Let’s dive into our 1st birthday edition.

In our first year, we sent out 52 editions of our Mini Millionaire's newsletter. We covered a broad range of smart money topics for the next generation of money masters, but we thought it would be cool to look back on our most popular editions.

We highlight a key takeaway from either the mindset, habit, or tip we cover in each edition, to help the lesson land in a practical, meaningful way, and link to each one in case you missed it, or wanted to brush up on one of these power editions.

This edition reframed pocket money as a practical coaching tool rather than a cash handout.

It highlighted that giving your mini millionaire a hands-on experience is the best way to build lasting financial literacy. The edition focused on helping parents move from control to guidance, allowing kids to make small, safe mistakes now to avoid big ones later in life when they’re managing their own salaries and income when working. 

A Key Mindset Takeaway: By shifting the mindset to guidance and not control, we allow our kids to own their decisions, fostering critical thinking and responsibility.

This edition simplified entrepreneurship by teaching that business is about solving problems and creating value.

It encouraged parents to help their mini millionaire spot needs (read: opportunities) in their community. Everything from mowing a neighbour's lawn, walking their dogs or selling treats. 

A Key Habit Takeaway: Encourage your mini millionaire to ask themselves what they can do to make someone's life easier or better. This shifts their focus from just making money to providing value.

In a world of instant gratification, this edition taught impulse control as a financial superpower.

It explored how involving kids in shopping decisions helps them build the planning muscles needed to prioritise their spending and appreciate what they already have. 

Key Tip Takeaway: Implement the 48-Hour Wish List Jar rule. When a child wants a must-have item, they write it down and wait two days before buying. This simple pause often makes the impulse fade, teaching the powerful lesson of delayed gratification and more thoughtful, intentional spending.

Since our very first edition of Mini Millionaires on the 2nd of April 2025, here’s what’s been happening on our email newsletter.

📰 52 unique weekly newsletter emails sent, dealing with a range of topics around basic financial literacy, building wealth, and even featuring some great South African financial products.

👀 Our readership almost doubled from the 942 readers who received our very first newsletter to the 1’700+ readers we have at the moment. 

🧠 Our emails were opened more than 22’000 unique times in 2025. That’s 22’000+ opportunities created for your mini millionaires to learn money-smart habits.

💜 A 35.34% average open rate - which is apparently pretty cool (according to those in the know).

Our most downloaded resource was the Fintr Savings Goals Template with SMART Reflection. 

And it’s so awesome to see, given how important saving is as a broader smart money skill.

See, setting a money goal is a great start.

But it’s the questions we ask that bring clarity, direction, and action. So this week’s free resource is our Savings Goal Template, complete with SMART Goal Reflection Questions for Kids, which helps you guide your mini millionaire through SMART goal setting with simple prompts and questions that make the process feel doable (and even fun!). 

Whether they’re saving for a toy or something bigger, these questions will help them think it through and stick with it. Use them as conversation starters around the dinner table or print them out and pop them on the fridge!

Our awesome board game, FinMaster, hits Exclusive Books stores nationwide this Friday 3 April 2026. 

In case you didn't know, FinMaster is a fun, investment-themed board game from Fintr that helps families turn game night into a money-smart adventure. Kids get introduced to concepts like investing, assets, strategy, and wealth-building in a way that feels playful, not preachy. 

It was created to help spark healthier, earlier conversations about money at home and build real confidence for the next generation.

From its humble pizza box beginnings, it has grown into an award-winner, taking 2nd place at the International Educational Games Competition in Norway.
